British-born Pritchard was head of the Vancouver Longshoremen's Union, executive member of the Vancouver Trades and Labor Council, a member of the Socialist Party of Canada, and an organizer of the One Big Union. After speaking in Winnipeg at Victoria Park during the Winnipeg General Strike on June 12, 1919, a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was captured in Calgary and put on trial for sedition with other leaders singled out by the federal government. Pritchard defended himself and was sentenced to one year in prison.
