Excerpt from Transactions of the American Climatological and Clinical Association, Vol. 33: For the Year 1917 Dr. Schauffler was active in most of the movements for the betterment of Kansas City, his especial interest being in health conditions. Largely through his efforts, open-air schools were built. For the last eight years he had been a member of the Board of Directors of the State Tuberculosis Sanitarium at Mount Vernon. He led the advocates of the construction of the County Tuberculosis Sanitarium at Leeds. He was professor of physiology, and later of the practice of medicine, in the Kansas City Medical College, until that school was absorbed by the Kansas State University. He filled this same chair in the Kansas State University for a number of years. He'was a former President of the Jackson County Medical Association and of the Associated Charities, Kansas City, and a former member of the State Board of Health. He was a member of the Loyal Legion, of the American Medical Association, and of the Missouri Medical Association, of which he was also at one time President.
