At a meeting of the Inhabitants of Brookline legally warned and assembled at the Town Hall, May 7, 1838, Deacon John Robinson was chosen Moderator. Voted, That the report on Town Accounts be accepted. Voted, That the sum of Forty-two hundred dollars be raized for the expences of the Town the current year. Voted, That the report of the committee for the repairs of Roads at the south part of the town be accepted. Voted, That the Selectmen be authorized to borrow for the use of the Town One Thousand dollars if need be and placed in the hands of the Treasurer. Voted, That the time for collecting Taxes hereafter be by the first day of October under the same restrictions as on the first day of January heretofore. Voted, That Doct, Charles Wild, Deacon Elijah Corey and Ebenezer Heath be a committee to Audit the Treasurer's accounts, and report at the March meeting. O. Whyte having declined at March meeting being considered as a candidate for the office of Collector & Treasurer, on motion of Deacon Clark a Vote of thanks was past for his services as Treasurer.
