Glass of Water provides an overview of Tony Matelli's sculpture of the past ten years, from his extraordinary (and sometimes scary) hyperrealistic sculptures of monkeys in combat and maimed humans to precarious stacks of cards and beer cans, or simpler works such as the titular piece, a comedic-sculptural expression of optimism.

The NGV is producing a large-scale publication to accompany this exhibition. With a broader reach than a traditional exhibition catalogue, this volume presents discourses from a variety of perspectives, including those of academics, journalists, literary figures, social commentators, artists and curators. The publication is intended to work as five books within one book. It comprises five linen-bound large-format paperbacks housed in a magnetic slip case. Each of the main four volumes speaks to a different theme explored in the Triennial, and each is designed to be transportable. The fifth volume acts as a dossier on NGV Triennial, with the exhibition information, positioning statements, listings of all supporters, biographies of artists and authors, and project descriptions. The NGV Triennial publication will feature over eighty authors from around the globe, including NGV writers, with all newly commissioned scholarship and an estimated word count of over 250,000 words. The publication will be heavily illustrated with images of works, and also includes photo essays and source and research material from featured artists and designers.

Two pieces by Tony Matelli face off in a mute dialogue: his darkly hilarious sculpture of a phlegmatic one-legged monkey on a crutch impaled by every possible piercing tool (sword, arrow, spear, scissors, dart, and even shovel), and a fake tree on a hooked rug. Drawings and studio shots take you further into Matelli's practice.

The birthplace of graffiti, New York City, has evolved into a global center for street art. Its public surfaces host a range of media from handmade stickers and wheatpastes to huge installations and murals. Artists from across the globe routinely travel to New York City to grace its walls as they refashion the city into one huge never-ending unofficial street art festival. Among these are such contemporary urban legends as D'Face, Banksy, Os Gemeos, Case, MaClaim, Invader, Stik and Faith 47. Street Art NYC showcases both sanctioned and unsanctioned works captured in the course of a transformative decade that saw the emergence of over a dozen distinctly engaging projects. The hugely popular Bushwick Collective, L.I.S.A Project NYC and Welling Court Mural Project are highlighted with introductory essays. Local community-based projects and festivals, as well as those responding to specific environmental and social issues, are also represented. Banksy's one month 2013 residency, Better Out than In is documented with words and images. And homage is paid to the legendary 5 Pointz graffiti and street art mecca. Street Art NYC is is a beautifully designed hardcover book. The full color photographs by Lord K2 captures the art in the city, printed on thick coated paper, and Lois Stavsky's text provides the context. This is the only book to spotlight the transformational decade that marked the shift from largely unsanctioned to widely curated street art throughout New York City's five boroughs. This book is a collaboration between Lord K2, an award-winning photographer and curator of the online Museum of Urban Art and Lois Stavsky, a noted street art documentarian and editor of the popular blog, Street Art NYC.

From the 1960s and 1970s onwards, different sculptors became involved with a mode of realism based on the physically lifelike appearance of the human body. By deploying traditional techniques of modelling, casting and painting in order to recreate human figures they follow different approaches towards a contemporary form of figural realism. The sculptures show how the way we see our bodies has been subject to constant change. The publication presents artworks of all important representatives of Hyperrealism. From the early pioneers like George Segal, Duane Hanson and John DeAndrea this comprehensive selection demonstrates how Hyperrealistic sculptures continuously developed up to the current stars of the movement like Ron Mueck, Sam Jinks, Evan Penny, Tony Matelli, and Patricia Piccinini.

Jan-Ole Schiemann (*1983) belongs to a young artist generation, subjecting painting to a critical actualisation. On the fringes of figuration and abstraction, he extracts fragments of advertisement, comics, architecture from their original context. Almost transparently, he interweaves and layers structures, logos, topographies, graffiti, and everyday textures. This complex surface mesh, always full frontal, yet equally deep, dissolves the fabric of reality as a flashing, constantly renewed and self-generating hyper-text, into which one can actively immerse oneself or trace the origins of individual elements. Exhibition: Nino Mier Gallery, Los Angeles, USA (15.02.-13.03.2020).
