The work was originally translated by Lieutenant E. B. Eastwick, and was published abroad for the use of students. This translation has been carefully revised, and to some extent rewritten by the Rev. A. J. W. Morrison. In addition to the Siege of Antwerp, another of Schiller's lucid historical essays, on the religious troubles in France which preceded the reign of Henry IV., has been appended. The translator of the last is Miss L. D. Schmitz, whose name is already well known through other translations in this Series.
