Here, if anywhere in the world, all races and many types of mankind are represented; the white, the yellow, the red, the brown, and the black. I had previously observed ears in America and Europe for several years, and after my arrival in the Philippines, in 1907, I gave particular attention to the ears of the Filipinos and the other inhabitants of these islands. The study of Filipino ears began by a close inspection and sketching of ears, on the streets leading into Manila, including the suburbs as well as the city proper, in the Assembly, and among other collections of Filipinos, such as the prisoners of Bilibid, where the criminals from all parts of the Philippines are incarcerated. Following this I made a more detailed study of the ears of the bodies received at Malecon Morgue, examined critically the ears of the people of the town of Taytay, and the FIG. 19--Types of Filipino ears. The Cro-Magnon is the Iberian type D and the Iberian in the central picture is the type C. ears of the inland tribes of the Philippines, the last largely by means of.photographs. Not having any preconceived ideas of the types of Filipino ears, I was led to select the European types with which I was familiar as the basis on which to begin my observations.
