Under investigation for this study were the job performance needs of first line supervisors in an Income Maintenance Administration. the purpose of the study was to determine from the supervisors and employees, who interface with them on a frequent basis, what the expectations were; and to make some recommendations to address the job performance needs of supervisors. to gather data, survey questionnaires were distributed. the subjects were proportionately divided among 11 decentralized social service centers. the findings suggested that what was expected of supervisors had marginal agreement with the means by which they were involved in development to meet expectations. Recommendations were made on ways to close the gap between the nature of expectations and anticipated effective job performance of first line supervisors.
