In considering the rival claims of differing systems presented to ns for consideration in any walk of life, whatever, we generally find that an advantage possessed by one is counterbalanced by something else in the case of the other. It is so in the ways of making collections. The advocates of direct forwarding claim that while it sometimes may involve more expense of time and money, the results are better, and the added expenditure thus more than justified. This would appear to be a sound argument, because it is based upon weakness of human nature. If every man did his duty to the utmost, under any circumstances, then the claims sent out by the collection agencies for which the collecting attorney receives only his proportion of the ten per cent fee, would receive exactly the same attention at his hands as those sent direct by the client, on which he receives the entire fee.
