Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 72: June 16, 1910 Jesus Christ - for the personage who spoke was none other than our Savior - stated that he must join none of them for they are all wrong, that their creeds are an abomination in my sight, they draw near to me with their lips but their hearts are far from me. They teach for doctrine the commandments of men, having a form of godliness but denying the power thereof. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 72: June 2, 1910 America the old world! What a bitter-coated pill for a theo logical and scientific world to swallow, laying, as it does, its foundation upon man's knowledge I What a silencer to the scorn and contumely heaped upon the Prophet Joseph Smith for his supposed audacity in giving to man, over half a century before science dared dream of its possibility, a revelation on the subject. Unsupported by profane or ecclesiastical history, with the conclu sions of the archaeological world against him and no vestige of evidence to substantiate his statement, he relied upon the future to vindicate him before the world as a prophet of the Most High. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 72: August 25, 1910 Those of us who have been baptised by those holding the authority of this Priesthood are indeed born again out of the water and of the Spirit, and inasmuch as we abide in the truth then are we joint heirs with Jesus Christ. As a child I knew the prophet, Joseph Smith. I was as familiar with him and in his home as I was with my own father and in my father's home. What I remember of him is that he was a good man, a man who loved the poor, a man who had a heart like a woman's in sympathy for all the afflicted. He was a good father to his children and he was a prophet of God. N ow I know this. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 72: March 31, 1910 The splendid organization of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as it exists to-day, is one of the fruits of the system, or doctrine, and it cannot be said with any degree of reason that the good conduct of a comparatively few men engaged in missionary work abroad, while the great body of the people were living horrible lives at home, could bring about such admirable results. The missionaries constitute but a single branch of the great tree of Mormonism, and if it is healthy and vigor ous and shows good fruits, then the trunk and the roots must of necessity be healthy and vigorous. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. The presence of these well-behaved men in the missionary field is a matter worthy of more than passing thought, when we consider the fruits of the tree of Mormonism. They come from all avocations direct into the work without preparation, in the ordinary sense, as ministers, but they are almost immediately able to discuss the principles of life and salvation readily and intelli gently, overwhelming the clergy by their wide understanding of the Holy Scriptures. They come from the cities, the farms, and in many cases from regions that may be termed frontiers, yet their behavior is such that even ministers of the gospel, who are unfriendly to the system, acknowledge their excellence. This is all the result of Mormonism. Their ability to meet the learned in the discussion of religion, to behave circumspectly and with propriety in all lands, they owe to the enlightening and refining influence of their faith. Of themselves they are weak, just as the apostles of the Lord were in olden times, but having been nourished from this tree of spiritual and intellectual life, they burst forth into able teachers of men. Could results like this come from a bad source? About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 72: May 19, 1910 N 0 one should conclude from these last remarks that, if they are true, the hopes or expectations of people indiscriminately ought to be realized, since the scriptures declare that according to a person's faith so shall events transpire. Respecting this phase of the case it is now merely observed that the Almighty has never placed Himself under any obligation to bring to pass all things which are made the objects upon which human faith rests, and this point shall receive more particular attention in due time before closing.
