Do not allow patient to take severe exercise or strain, and make patient wear a truss. The radical cure is an operation, as follows: Make an incision around the mass and separate the sac from the superficial tissues, if possible. If this can't be done, open the sac and separate it from the contents, then return the contents to the abdominal cavity. The sac is isolated and removed. The peritoneum is then closed by means of continuous catgut sutures. If possible the recti muscles are to be pulled to gether to close the opening; then the aponeurosis is closed with continuous cat gut sutures. A few sutures may be put in the subcutaneous fat and then the skin is closed with a continuous suture of silver wire; after which the patient is to be dressed under aseptic precautions.
