The changes which the years have made in the laws and customs affecting some of the subjects considered, and the propriety of including in the new edition some subjects which were not considered at all in the previous editions, have made it necessary to revise and alter the work to a considerable extent. In preparing the revised edition I have found that the changes above referred to have been, and doubtless will continue to be, so frequent that an attempt to keep up with them in detail would necessitate a revision of The American Business Woman at least once a year. In the present edition, therefore, I have sought to generalize to a greater extent the subjects which are involved, thus lessening the probabilities of misleading any one, and leaving it to the reader to seek, if necessary, more specific knowledge in manners which have been, in all cases, suggested.
