Standing in the Forest of Being Alive is a memoir-in-poems that reckons with erotic love even as the narrator is diagnosed and treated for breast cancer at the age of thirty-six during a time of pandemic and political upheaval. With humor and honesty, the book portrays both the pleasures and the horrors of the lover, the citizen, and the medical subject. How can we find, in the midst of hell, what isn’t hell? And whom can we tell how much we want to live? An intimate, hilarious and devastating look into some of the most private moments of a life—even if they happen to occur in a medical office with six strangers looking on. This book is for anyone who's ever asked how to live in the face of suffering, and doesn't expect an easy answer. Standing in the Forest of Being Alive looks unflinchingly at painful realities, posing the question "What isn't hell?" and finds the answer in a powerful eros, letting a loved one pull laughter out of the narrator's reluctant mouth like a "redvioletcerulean handkerchief."

Voted one of the five best poetry collections for 2012 by Publishers Weekly, Animal Eye employs pastoral motifs to engage a discourse on life and love, as Coal Hill Review states "It is as if a scientist is at work in the basement of the museum of natural history, building a diorama of an entire ecosystem via words. She seem snot only interested in using the natural world as a metaphoric lens in her poems but is set on building them item by item into natural worlds themselves."

Fiction. Women's Studies. Art. Drama. Illustrated by Lavinia Hanachiuc. Second Edition. A host of characters emerge from a madwoman's dreams, populating a world as strange and magnificent as a painting by Hieronymus Bosch. A boy with one wing seeks the secret to flight. A girl with a mirror for a face, adored by all, longs to simply eat. A pregnant girl reflects on the effects of metamorphosis. The stories of BOYSGIRLS are modern myths: tales that exist within our present time but also outside it, in a place as eternal as Atlantis or Middle Earth.

Poetry. R E D is an erasure of Bram Stoker's Dracula. A long poem in 27 chapters, R E D excavates from Stoker's text an original narrative of violence, sexual abuse, power dynamics, vengeance, and feminist rage while wrestling with the complexities of gender, transition, and monsterhood.

The present volume includes papers presented in the International Symposium on Adaptations to Terrestrial Environment, held in Halkidiki, Greece from September 26th to October 2nd, 1982, as well as some invited ones from well known scientists working in the same field. It seemed rather optimistic to deal just in the same volume with such a variety of organisms (micro organisms to higher plants) on the basis of the1r adaptive strategies for survival on land. It would appear as the entire ecology ought to be included. It was a challenge for us. We undertook this challenge hoping that the output would not be unsuccessful. The Editors allowed the authors of the accepted papers great leeway in terms of thoroughness of their contributions. The quality of the papers included is high while some of them had to be rewritten in order to include valuable comments developed during the Symposium discussions. We have tried to include many papers from Eastern Europe since generally, because of the language problem, they do not get widely known. The Editors wish to express their thankfulness to UNESCO for sponsoring the Symposium in the frame of Man and Biosphere Program; to all scientists who have contributed papers in this volume; and to Mrs. A. Karamanli-Vlahopoulou for her patient and skillful typing of part of the manuscript.
