Excerpt from Characteristics of Existing Glaciers No attempt has here been made to set forth the views of that school of British geologists particularly Which holds that the denudational effect of glacier ice is nega tive, because it protects the basement from the process of weathering. As will appear from the text, the writer believes that protection from weathering on the cirque floor combined with effective weathering at the base of the cirque wall, explains the lateral migration of the glacial amphitheatre.
