Excerpt from Semicentennial Publications The Semicentennial Publications of The University of California are offered as an expression of some of the more notable scholarly and literary work of the University. Part of these publications represent important current activities in various departments; others are distinctly monographic in character, and are the results of long-continued investigations which have been carried to conclusions within the semicentenary year. Work on some contributions was necessarily suspended by reason of war conditions, but all the publications included in the following pages are either completed or nearing completion.
