"When I was diagnosed Paranoid Schizophrenic it I felt as though a lightning bolt had struck me. It shattered my world. I was put into a mental asylum. I was labeled. I was shunned. My friends fell away. I was walled by a screen of prejudice and fear from the general public. Was this to be a life sentence? Was there a way to escape from the straitjacket of serious mental illness? This is my story, the story of how I learned to survive. Is it success? You be the judge".

In response to many requests I have published a fifth edition with black and white photographs instead of colour on budget paper so as to make it affordable, leaving the fourth edition with its colour pictures for collectors. The fifth edition has a changed title to distinguish it from the previous edition. Editions four and five are rewritten and updated versions of my first book, 'Paranoid Schizophrenia, My Label, My Life', published first in October 2012. The eBook published in July 2020, remains unchanged and has many photographs in full colour."When I was diagnosed with Paranoid Schizophrenia, it felt as though a lightening bolt had struck me. This is the life story of Geula Salomonova. It is based on real-life events. Geula is ill with the mental disorder called paranoid schizophrenia. The story is told from her point of view. This means that many events like hallucinations may sound like fiction, but they are real. Nothing is fictional. There are a lot of medical books and other materials on schizophrenia, but not much has been said from firsthand experience. Those who are sick will never tell you their tale. This is because they are not coherent and not in touch with their surroundings most of the time. Thus, their point of view and experience are kept secret. Geula, who passed through the usual psychotic experiences, had the good fortune of overcoming them and being able to tell her story. However, although the act of writing of this book was not easy, Geula decided to make the effort to finish it and share it with you. The book can be seen as the memoirs of a woman who has been haunted by Satan and demons. The whole story takes place through various countries and from the age of fifteen to thirty-six. The names of the characters have been changed to protect their identity and privacy. From this point on, I will narrate as Geula. Seven years have passed since the events of this story took place. The inspiration for writing this book was from reading Anita Moorjani’s Dying to Be Me. It narrates her life story and tells about a woman dying from cancer but eventually coming back to life. Thus, I decided to tell you about what had happened in my life.
"There are sensors in my hands and cameras in my walls. I'm sure of it." But when Milly Thiringer mentioned this to her friends, the only thing they were sure of was that she needed to see a doctor. Diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia at age nineteen, Milly spent years running circles through the revolving door of the public mental healthcare system, being told to focus on symptom management and coping strategies as no significant improvement in her prognosis could be expected. She almost gave up. Almost. Along the way Milly's learned to be her own advocate while fighting through and redefining recovery.
This book is about the author’s personal experience living with paranoia schizophrenia his entire life and how his strong faith in God helped him endure. The story tries to relate his experiences to you the reader who may have a similar mental illness and may need encouragement in carrying out your life to the best of your ability. Mental illness is a very real illness. The general population downplays it sometimes as a character defect in the individual. Research about the cause of mental illness points to a biological or genetic predisposition which could be inherited. For myself I believe it was inherited. I will get into my beliefs on that later on. The environment can also be a factor for some people who develop mental illness. Schizophrenia is a serious mental illness that originates from malfunctioning signals from the brain that effect ones thought processes & behavior. Just because you are diagnosed later in life doesn’t mean you were not born with the illness. The illness has a broad effect on a person’s everyday functioning such as going to school, working, hygiene or social relationships. Once diagnosed with schizophrenia a person is effected usually in a negative manner. Their lives change dramatically. Their ability to carry on a normal routine becomes limited motivation is many times effected because of the side effects of the medication which they are taking. A person may feel tired & listless much of the time. Medication helps with the delusions and hallucinations that exist in an acute episode but can also slow a person down. Outside supports from family & friends can be a huge asset to someone with schizophrenia, exercise (if you can do it), meditation (relaxation techniques), a strong relationship with God, & a stable & secure living environment all can help in coping with the illness as well. Mental health professionals also can be a huge asset & wanting to get help by the person is definitely necessary.
Richard Carlson Jr. was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia when he was twenty-one years of age. His illness first manifested when he was an early adolescent. Modern psychiatry greatly failed Richard for over a decade. Then, after an incident involving the police, he truly understood that his diagnosis was real, and finally began the long process of recovery. Over ten years later, his life is greatly improved. In the course of his treatment, Richard also recovered from depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and lethargy. Do not let what happened to Richard happen to you, a loved one, or a patient dealing with severe mental illness. Always be honest with each other, and with your psychiatrist. This book was written to explain a situation where those who seemed to have everything became only dust to be swept into the sea. Or so it seemed, but that dust had life within it and was to sow another future in another land.
