Protection against fire exposure demands isola tion of buildings and restriction in size of units. At the same time, the arrangement should be such as affords the greatest economy in handling the cotton, which preferably should be moved into the warehouse from one side and turned out from the opposite side. The design of buildings with reference to size and proportion of compartments, story height, and num ber of stories should be based upon all of the foregoing facts considered in conjunction with the relative cost of various types of construction and the resulting rate of insurance.
