En el Año Internacional de los Trabajadores y Cuidadores de la Salud (2021) y en un esfuerzo por apoyar a los países en el diseño e implementación de estrategias para abordar los problemas de los trabajadores para la salud durante la pandemia de COVID-19, la Dirección de Recursos Humanos para la Salud de la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS), en colaboración con el Programa Subregional para América del Sur de la Organización Panamericana de la Salud, Oficina Regional de la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OPS/OMS), han impulsado un estudio de casos de cinco países latinoamericanos sobre el impacto de la COVID-19 en los recursos humanos para la salud (RHS) y la respuesta de política. Este estudio proporciona una metodología e indicadores de medición estandarizados para identificar, analizar y cuantificar el impacto multifacético de la COVID-19 en los RHS en Bolivia (Estado Plurinacional de), Chile, Colombia, Ecuador y el Perú. Este conocimiento y las lecciones aprendidas contribuyen a aportar evidencia y alinear prioridades y objetivos de política en torno a la protección de y cuidado por la fuerza laboral de salud de toda la Región. Adicionalmente destaca la necesidad de mejorar la inversión en RHS como estrategia prioritaria para fortalecer la resiliencia de los sistemas de salud, asegurando su continuidad y óptimo funcionamiento con acceso y cobertura adecuados para toda la población. El estudio está dirigido a los trabajadores de la salud, investigadores y hacedores de política pública.
