This conference brought together the people working on 4π detectors to discuss what had been achieved, whether the results agreed, and to think about possible collaborations to measure the excitation function of several observables. It discussed the similarities and differences in the results obtained at low (100 MeV-1 GeV) and high (10 GeV-200 GeV) energies and outlined what the different fields could learn from each other, especially concerning correlations and particle production. It surveyed the success and also the insufficiency of the present theoretical approaches and discussed the direction in which they have to improve. Finally it gave an account of new developments in data analysis (wavelets, neural networks etc.).

The ISMD 2005 conference reviewed and updated the theoretical and experimental understanding of multiparticle production in high energy collisions. About half of the papers discussed collisions of ultra-relativistic nuclei with recent results from RHIC. In addition, some intriguing results from HERA and Tevatron colliders were presented and future experiments were discussed as well. Following the ISMD conference, the Workshop on Particle Correlations and Femtoscopy was held for the first time. This new series of regular workshops presents a critical and thorough analysis of the latest results on particle interferometry in high energy heavy ion collisions. Thefocus on this rather narrow subject was stimulated by a wealth of new data arriving steadily from the RHIC and SPS experiments.

The Compound-Nuclear Reaction and Related Topics (CNR*) international workshop series was initiated in 2007 with a meeting near Yosemite National Park. It has since been held in Bordeaux (2009), Prague (2011), Sao Paulo (2013), Tokyo (2015), and Berkeley, California (2018). The workshop series brings together experts in nuclear theory, experiment, data evaluations, and applications, and fosters interactions among these groups. Topics of interest include: nuclear reaction mechanisms, optical model, direct reactions and the compound nucleus, pre-equilibrium reactions, fusion and fission, cross section measurements (direct and indirect methods), Hauser-Feshbach theory (limits and extensions), compound-nuclear decays, particle and gamma emission, level densities, strength functions, nuclear structure for compound-nuclear reactions, nuclear energy, nuclear astrophysics, and other topics. This peer-reviewed proceedings volume presents papers and poster summaries from the 6th International Workshop on Compound-Nuclear Reactions and Related Topics CNR*18, held on September 24-28, 2018, at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, Berkeley, CA.

In this book, Dr Mak views the financial market from a scientific perspective. The book attempts to provide a realistic description of what the market is, and how future research should be developed. The market is a complex phenomenon, and can be forecasted only with errors — if that particular market can be forecasted at all.The book reviews the scientific literatures on the financial market and describes mathematical procedures which demonstrate that some markets are non-random. How the markets are modeled — phenomenologically and from first principle — is explained. It discusses indicators, which are quite objective, rather than price patterns, which are rather subjective. Similarities between indicators in market trading and operators in mathematics are noted, and particularly, between oscillator indicators and derivatives in Calculus. It illustrates why some indicators, e.g., Stochastics, have limited usage. Several new indicators are designed and tested on theoretical waveforms to check their validity and applicability. The indicators have a minimal time lag, which is significant for trading purposes. Common market behaviors like divergences between price and momentum are explained. A skipped convolution technique is introduced to allow traders to pick up market movements at an earlier time. The market is treated as a nonlinear phenomenon. Forecasting of when the market is going to turn is emphasized.

The main theme of this workshop, the fourth meeting in the LESIP series, is correlations and Fluctuations in strong interaction processes. While the emphasis was on Bose-Einstein correlations between identical particles, other kinds of correlations (between non-identical particles, multiplicity distributions, transverse energy distributions, inelasticity distributions etc.) were addressed. The recent developments in fractal dynamics, intermittency, deterministic chaos and information entropy and their roles in high energy physics also was addressed. Finally, transverse energy distributions and inelasticity distributions, insofar as they impart information about thermalization of the energy available for hadronization, was discussed. These issues are of relevance for the current searches for Quark-Gluon-Plasma. The goal of the workshop is to provide a forum for the presentation of new experimental results.

All papers have been peer-reviewed. Compound-nuclear reactions play a crucial role in nuclear astrophysics, nuclear energy, and national security. Although the concept of the compound nucleus dates back to the 1930s, a comprehensive, quantitative description of compound-nuclear reactions remains to be established. CNR* 2007 brought together experts in nuclear theory, experiment, and data evaluation to review current efforts aimed at understanding compound-nuclear reactions and to identify strategies for addressing open questions.
