The 26 articles of “In the Footprints of Our Faith” offer religious, historical, and archaeological considerations about important sites in the Holy Land: Nazareth, Ein Karem, Bethlehem, Jerusalem, the Jordan River, Cana, Capernaum, the Lake of Gennesaret, Bethany, Emmaus... The original monthly series was written as a way to celebrate the Year of Faith opened by Pope Benedict XVI in 2012, and closed by Pope Francis in 2013. Here we present a compilation of these articles, sponsored by the Saxum Foundation. We began them in hopes of helping each reader personally “immerse” themselves in the Gospel, as St. Josemaria Escriva recommended, so that the Word of God may have a deep and lasting effect on the reader’s life.

In the Footprints of Our Faith includes 27 articles that describe important places associated with Jesus' life: Nazareth, Ein Karem, Bethlehem, Jerusalem, the Jordan River, Cana, Capernaum, the Lake of Gennesaret, Bethany, Emmaus... To explain why Christians venerate the Sacred Places in the Holy Land, the authors rely on the Holy Bible, historical sources, and archaeological research. In addition, spiritual considerations are included, to help the reader personally immerse themselves in the Gospel, so that the Word of God may have a lasting impact on the reader's life. The inspiration for these reflections comes from the Fathers of the Church, the Magisterium of recent Popes, and the teachings of the Saints, especially that of St. Josemaria Escriva, the founder of Opus Dei. In the Footprints of Our Faith is useful reading for anyone interested in the Holy Land, especially those preparing to make a pilgrimage there and for those who wish to relive it later, once back home. St. Josemaria had always wanted to make a pilgrimage to the Holy Land and dreamed of starting various apostolic initiatives there which would help the Church. He was never able to fulfill this dream, but his first successor at the head of Opus Dei, Blessed Alvaro del Portillo, was able to make a pilgrimage to the Holy Land from March 14-22, 1994. On the morning of March 23rd, only a few hours after Blessed Alvaro's return to Rome, God called him to Heaven. With the faithful of Opus Dei and those with a devotion to Blessed Alvaro in mind, there are references to his final days in the Holy Land scattered throughout the text of the extended edition of In the Footprints of Our Faith.

The author praises Gratian’s zeal for instruction in the Faith, and speaks lowly of his own merits. Taught of God Himself, the Emperor stands in no need of human instruction; yet this his devoutness prepares the way to victory. The task appointed to the author is difficult: in the accomplishment whereof he will be guided not so much by reason and argument as by authority, especially that of the Nicene Council.

An exhilarating conversion story of a devout Baptist who relates how he overcame his hostility to the Catholic Church by a combination of serious Bible study and vast research of the writings of the early Church Fathers. In addition to a moving account of their conversion that caused Ray and his wife to "cross the Tiber" to Rome, he offers an in-depth treatment of Baptism and the Eucharist in Scripture and the ancient Church. Thoroughly documented with hundreds of footnotes, this contains perhaps the most complete compilation of biblical and patristic quotations and commentary available on Baptism and the Eucharist, as well as a detailed analysis of Sola Scriptura and Tradition. "This is really three books in one that offers not only a compelling conversion story, but documented facts that are likely to cinch many other conversions." - Karl Keating "A very moving and astute story. I am enormously impressed with Ray's candor, courage and theological literacy." - Thomas Howard Stephen K. Ray was raised in a devout and loving Baptist family. His father was a deacon and Bible teacher, and Stephen was very involved in the Baptist Church as a teacher of Biblical studies. After an in-depth study of the writings of the Church Fathers, both Steve and his wife Janet converted to the Catholic Church. He is the host of the popular, award-winning film series on salvation history, The Footprints of God. Steve is also the author of the best-selling books Upon This Rock, and St. John's Gospel.
