"The qualitative study examined students' perceptions of the impacts of simulation on preparation for occupational therapy (OT) Level II fieldwork. Eleven students or alumni from a medium-sized public university in the Midwestern United States participated in focus groups exploring the use of simulation as a means to develop professional judgement skills and interprofessional skills, as well as the impacts of simulation on specific skills. Four themes emerged from the focus groups: development of professional judgement skills, improvement of interprofessional skills, types of simulation that impacted specific skills, and suggestions to improve simulation experiences in the future. Participants felt that simulation improved confidence in clinical thinking. Overall, participants perceived simulations as a valuable tool for preparation for some of their Level II fieldwork; they also provided suggestions for the structure and timing of these simulations within the OT curriculum. Future research should examine student learning outcomes as a result of participation in simulation to better understand the effects of simulation long term." -- From page 2.
