Abstract: Government regulations and legislation which affect education of American Indians are reviewed for use by Indian parents, education committees and other concerned groups. Indian involvement in the education of their children is encouraged; it can only be fostered with adequate information. A question-and-answer format is used in discussions of Title IV, Public Law 92-318, the Indian Education Act (1972) and amendments extending Title IV programs; the Johnson O'Malley Act (1974) and amendments providing for educational and other services to Indian people; Public Laws 81-874 and 81-815 ("Impact Aid") providing financial assistance for school operation and construction; child nutrition programs; and Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act and Title VII of ESEA on bilingual education. History, definitions, participation, eligibility criteria and application procedures for these programs are described.
