Due to the battles fought in Desert Storm in which a high percent of the BLUE losses were attributable to friendly fire, the military community has focused more attention on the causes and prevention of fratricide. Combat Identification Devices (CID's) are being developed with the purpose of identifying friendly vehicles before engagement. In an effort to support work in this area, the U.S. Army Materiel Systems Analysis Activity (AMSAA) has modified one of its combat simulations, Groundwars, to include the possibility of fratricide and the deployment of the proposed near term CID's.
