Ava is a firebug—she can start fires with her mind. Which would all be well and good if she weren't caught in a deadly contract with the Coterie, a magical mafia. She's one of their main hitmen . . . and she doesn't like it one bit. Not least because her boss, Venus, killed Ava's mother. When Venus asks Ava to kill a family friend, Ava rebels. She knows very well that you can't say no to the Coterie and expect to get away with it, though, so she and her friends hit the road, trying desperately to think of a way out of the mess they find themselves in. Preferably keeping the murder to a minimum, in Lish McBride's Firebug.

The Whisky Flat firebug has capped a busy two years with his most impressive light-up yet, generating new peaks of fear and bitterness. A very credible rumor links the pest to a big city corporation, hired to scare residents off land targetted for redevelopment. As the blaze closes on Whisky Flat township, nine-year-old Donny O'Brien goes missing, purportedly abducted by the developer to make his parents part with a key parcel of land. But Donny's dog and his next-door neighbor, Miss Ethel Madden, also vanish, upsetting the popular theory and, as the fire spreads, becoming the focus of problems nobody has imagined.

This early work by Arthur Benjamin Reeve was originally published in 1912 and we are now republishing it with a brand new introductory biography. "The Firebug" has Kennedy solve a case of multiple arsons in department stores, with the help of some taunting notes sent to the fire chief. Arthur Benjamin Reeve was born on 15th October 1880 in New York, USA. Reeve received his University education at Princeton and upon graduating enrolled at the New York Law School. However, his career was not destined to be in the field of Law. Between 1910 and 1918 he produced 82 short stories for Cosmopolitan. During this period he also began authoring screenplays. By the end of this decade his film career was at its peak with his name appearing on seven films, most of them serials and three of them starring Harry Houdini. In 1932 he moved to Trenton to be near his alma mater. He died on 9th August 1936.
