This document presents data on transport and energy use for 1984 calendar year with time trends. It updates NZERDC Report No. 27 which provided similar information for 1975. A large amount of research has been carried out since the original report which has filled gaps in the statistical data base. In some cases this indicates the need for revision of the original data tabulations. As with Report No. 27, the approach taken has been to successively disaggregate global data using published and unpublished official statistics, surveys and research reports. Data sources have been compared and matched so as to provide an internally consistent set of tabulations. It must be noted that the quality of data is not uniform and that consequently some parts of the analysis are more reliably established than others. The report is laid out in summary form with supporting tables and appendices.
