This book is written for the Christian who is struggling to reconcile the demands of the Scripture with his own condition. People love to say, "Christians aren't perfect, just forgiven" But, therein lies the rub. The Bible tells us to be holy and challenges us to purposeful perfection (maturity). Since holiness dwells in contradistinction to sin, we have begun with a discussion of the sin principle. What causes the Christian to sin after he has been saved? What is God's provision to "master over it?" God's desire is to have a walking, talking, relationship with Him by His indwelling Holy Spirit and to have complete victory over sin which "crouches at the door." Salvation is a big subject. It is more than just "getting saved" and living happily ever after. Salvation propels us by the grace of God through an often difficult life and into eternity. For now, we need encouragement, healing, correction and renewal under the tutelage of the indwelling Holy Spirit. He brings with Him every good fruit including joy through my circumstances, a love for people and the desire to know God. He removes the root(s) of sin so that my only desire is to be near Jesus, to bring Him blessing, honor, glory and power, because they belong to Him and Him alone.

Jerry Bridges’ life is a remarkable story of God’s providence. From “a most unpromising beginning” as a poor kid from the wrong side of the tracks, he joined the Navy, went to college, became an engineer, joined The Navigators as a missionary, and eventually became a best-selling author. In this book, Jerry illustrates through his story—and then summarizes for the reader—seven key “spiritual lessons” that God has taught him through his 83 years. These lessons can be passed on to any believer.

This new book shares the joy, humor, surprises, grief, and messiness when god invites us to strip away the personas of "perfect priest" or "perfect Christian" and rediscover what is sacred and genuine about ourselves and our faith. Priests and writers Brock and Koppel relate common and unique experiences here, as we join them on a sometimes startling journey of faith. With a genuine no-holds-barred approach and unique style, the authors address common life experiences with wit, revelation, and self-discovery as they unpack the dirtiness of failure, the messiness of death, the frailty behind our personas, and the joy of resurrection as new life - with lessons learned. The new book also features questions for reflection written by New York Times best-selling author, Lauren Winner, who wrote "Girl Meets God" and "Still." The Wilbur Award-winning book Grateful is now available in paperback and with an updated subtitle. If gratitude is good, why is it so hard to do? In Grateful, Diana Butler Bass untangles our conflicting understandings of gratitude and sets the table for a renewed practice of giving thanks. We know that gratitude is good, but many of us find it hard to sustain a meaningful life of gratefulness. Four out of five Americans report feeling gratitude on a regular basis, but those private feelings seem disconnected from larger concerns of our public lives. In Grateful, cultural observer and theologian Diana Butler Bass takes on this “gratitude gap” and offers up surprising, relevant, and powerful insights to practice gratitude. Bass, author of the award-winning Grounded and ten other books on spirituality and culture, explores the transformative, subversive power of gratitude for our personal lives and in communities. Using her trademark blend of historical research, spiritual insights, and timely cultural observation, she shows how we can overcome this gap and make change in our own lives and in the world. With honest stories and heartrending examples from history and her own life, Bass reclaims gratitude as a path to greater connection with god, with others, with the world, and even with our own souls. It’s time to embrace a more radical practice of gratitude—the virtue that heals us and helps us thrive.

The hole in our holiness is that we don't care much about holiness. Or, at the very least, we don't understand it. And we all have our reasons too: Maybe the pursuit of holiness seems legalistic. Maybe it feels like one more thing to worry about in your already overwhelming life. Maybe the emphasis on effort in the Christian life appears unspiritual. Or maybe you've been trying really hard to be holy and it's just not working! Whatever the case, the problem is clear: too few Christians look like Christ and too many don't seem all that concerned about it. This is a book for those of us who are ready to take holiness seriously, ready to be more like Jesus, ready to live in light of the grace that produces godliness. This is a book about God's power to help us grow in personal holiness and to enjoy the process of transformation.

J.C. Ryle’s Holiness has imparted a standing challenge to Christians for 130 years. In this new, slimmed-down series of excerpts from Ryle’s masterwork, we aim to present his original message to a whole new generation. Holiness, Ryle argued, was not simply a matter of believing and feeling, but of doing.
