Hawthorne and Thomas Paine and their own autobiography. He directed the freethinkers at the South Place Chapel in London, now Conway Hall.Conway's parents descended from Virginia's First Families. His father, Walter Peyton Conway, was a rich slave knight, farmer, county judge and state representative; his house, known as the Conway House, is still located at 305 King Street (also known as River Road), along the Rappahannock River.
