Dancing with Nature is a monograph of gardens and sculpture created by Morgan Dix Wheelock, landscape architect, during his forty-five years of professional practice as a landscape architect. He began his professional career as a three-year apprentice to Japans master architect and landscape architect Masao Kinoshita, at the time a principal of Sasaki Associates under the direction of the American landscape architect Hideo Sasaki. Wheelocks intuitive method of design is clearly derived from these early days working closely with Kinoshita, who did not have a sufficient mastery at that time of the English language to verbalize his philosophy and technique. Rather, these essentials were taught telepathically and through visual observation. In the masters mind, no task was too menial to be empty of meaning. It all comes in time. Eat hamburger before you eat steak, said Kinoshita. This book is based on several lectures given by Wheelock, in which he describes his philosophy using many of his projects to illustrate his method of design and the unique and surprising benefits his Clients have derived from their landscapes.

The calamitous impacts of climate change that are beginning to be felt around the world today expose the inextricability of human and natural histories. Arguing for a more complex account of such calamities, Kate Rigby examines a variety of past disasters, from the Black Death of the Middle Ages to the mega-hurricanes of the twenty-first century, revealing the dynamic interaction of diverse human and nonhuman factors in their causation, unfolding, and aftermath. Focusing on the link between the ways disasters are framed by the stories told about them and how people tend to respond to them in practice, Rigby also shows how works of narrative fiction invite ethical reflection on human relations with one another, with our often unruly earthly environs, and with other species in the face of eco-catastrophe. In its investigation of an array of authors from the Romantic period to the present—including Heinrich von Kleist, Mary Shelley, Theodor Storm, Colin Thiele, and Alexis Wright— Dancing with Disaster demonstrates the importance of the environmental humanities in the development of more creative, compassionate, ecologically oriented, and socially just responses to the perils and possibilities of the Anthropocene. Dancing with Nature by Jacqueline Bell Fruge. A new method for those who meditate, creative insights for those who love nature, psychological and spiritual applications for those on a life quest. These are all embraced in the twenty-four meditative essays which lead to psychological and spiritual learnings taught by nature. The title is the perfect description of the rhythmic exchange with many aspects of nature, particularly with flowers and stars, trees and crystals, water and animals, and dozens of God's creations. These have all led the writer to believe that by observing nature, one can learn about life and how to live it. Inspiring photographs provide a graphic image to use the book as a starting point for contemplation throughout the seasons of the year and then to apply the methods described for one's own life journey. This is an ideal gift book for a special friend or family member. "Dancing with Nature makes for very interesting reading, combining spirituality and psychotherapeutic modalities with nature. Dr. Fruge' visualizes things through a painter's or a photographer's eyes. The author's strengths are in great description and excellent use of metaphors with fine style. Inspirational, especially for the nature lover". Sue Nausbaum, author, editor and reviewer.
