Pierre Bourdieu is one of the world's most important social theorists and is also one of the great empirical researchers in contemporary sociology. Anthropology has traditionally relied on a spatially localized society or culture as its object of study. Questions of identity and identification are among the most important evolving concerns of contemporary cultural studies.
