Compound Semiconductors 1994 provides a comprehensive overview of research and applications of gallium arsenide, indium phosphide, silicon carbide, and other compound semiconducting materials. Contributed by leading experts, the book discusses growth, characterization, processing techniques, device applications, high-power, high-temperature semiconductor devices, visible emitters and optoelectronic integrated circuits (OEICs), heterojunction transistors, nanoelectronics, and nanophotonics, and simulation and modeling. The book is an essential reference for researchers working on the fabrication of semiconductors, characterization of materials, and their applications for devices, such as lasers, photodiodes, sensors, and transistors, particularly in the high-speed telecommunications industries.

The field of compound semiconductors has changed significantly since the first International Symposium on GaAs was held in 1966. By the time the third symposium was held in 1970, the scope was expanded to include new work on GaP, InP and mixed crystals of III-V compounds. Correspondingly, the symposium was renamed Gallium Arsenide and Related Compounds. As the need to improve the performance and expand the capability of electronic and photonic devices continually drives our research into new materials and fabrication/characterization technologies, the symposium has continued to modify its scope to remain current. However, the charter remains unchanged. The 21st international Symposium on Compound Semiconductors continues to provide a forum for the myriad activities involved in the conception, fabrication, application and analysis of compound semiconductor devices. Here, researchers have the unique opportunity to discuss subjects with participants from many disciplines and come away from the symposium with perspectives on their own work that could not be so readily obtained in other ways. jg p.12.

The 24th Symposium attracted over 250 submissions, predominantly on growth and characterization. Compound semiconductors have become pervasive in applications that are unique and could not be addressed in any other viable manner, such as laser diodes in compact disk players, high brightness LEDs in automotive tail lights, low noise and low power amplifiers in cellular phones, infra-red diodes in remote controls, low noise amplifier front ends in televisions, and the recent high-brightness blue LEDs. Many of the contributions that engendered these novel products were first reported at the International Symposium on Compound Semiconductors. The procceedings of this conferences are an essential reference for all researchers in semiconductor physics, optoelectronics, electronic and electrical engineering, researching the properties and applications of compound materials.
