It is no fault of ours that we are unable to present a larger edition. The task of compiling such a Directory is more difficult than one would suppose. It is impossible to publish a presentable work on the subject without the assistance of the majority of the collectors themselves. If they are not enough interested to reply promptly and state their specialties in detail they certainly cannot expect an elaborate work. While the majority write very legible letters many of their signatures are not legible. We have been compelled to write two or three times to many, and some have not favored us with even a response. Under the circumstances we have great cause to be thankful to those that have so kindly assisted us, and the many that have subscribed, as well as those that assisted us by advertisements, contributions, &c.
