"This series of reports is in a sense a continuation, but with a decided expansion, of the plan of the English ruling cases, as it takes the cases from the British empire, instead of from England only, but it continues the English ruling cases in the sense that it will include the most important cases from the English courts decided since that series terminated."--Pref.

Excerpt from British Ruling Cases, Vol. 2: From Courts of Great Britain, Canada, Ireland, Australia and Other Divisions of the British Empire, Extensively Annotated Privy Council. The jurisdiction of the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council rests on the royal prerogative, by virtue of which the King has the right to review any decision of any court in his transmarine dominions, criminal or civil. As new constituted, it consists of the President of the Council, the Lord Keeper or First Lord Commissioner of the Great Seal of England, and all privy councilors who have held these offices or hold or have held high judicial omce, that is to say, who have been Lords of Appeal in Ordinary, Judges of the Supreme Courts of England or Ireland or of the Court of Session in Scotland. The sovereign may also appoint two other privy councilors to be members of the committee. Privy councilors who are or have been judges of the Supreme Court of Canada or the superior court of any province of Canada, or the superior court in the seven Australian colonies, or of Cape Colony, or Natal, or of Newfoundland, are also members of the Judicial Committee. This tribunal has appellate jurisdiction in admiralty cases and over appeals from courts outside the United Kingdom, except so far as the prerogative in this behalf has been surrendered. Its decisions, although in the form of a recommendation or report to the King in Council, are not subject to review. The idea of The Fingerprint Sourcebook originated during a meeting in April 2002. Individuals representing the fingerprint, academic, and scientific communities met in Chicago, Illinois, for a day and a half to discuss the state of fingerprint identification with a view toward the challenges raised by Daubert issues. The meeting was a joint project between the International Association for Identification (IAI) and West Virginia University (WVU). One recommendation that came out of that meeting was a suggestion to create a sourcebook for friction ridge examiners, that is, a single source of researched information regarding the subject. This sourcebook would provide educational, training, and research information for the international scientific community.

The Global Study on Homicide 2013 is based on comprehensive data from more than 200 countries/territories, and examines and analyses patterns and trends in homicide at the global, regional, national and sub-national levels. Such analysis is fundamental to understanding the various factors and dynamics that drive homicide, so that measures can be developed to reduce violent crime. The Study provides a typology of homicide, including homicide related to crime, coexistence-related homicide, and socio-political homicide. The nature of crime in several countries emerging from conflict, the role of various mechanisms in killing, and the response of the criminal justice system to homicide are also analyzed. A further chapter examines homicide at the sub-national level, and includes analysis at the city-level for selected global cities.
