Unlock connection with your body and harness the power of self-healing. A fifth-generation practitioner of medical qigong, Master FaXiang Hou has dedicated a lifetime of study to women’s health. Qigong is the traditional Chinese practice of low-impact body movement based on the ancient theory that the beneficial flow of energy—or “qi”—through the body restores vitality and regulates the functions of the mind, body, and breath. Drawing on centuries-old knowledge, the practice protects against disease and other complications that arise when the meridians through which energy flows are blocked. Qigong has had spectacular results in patients, eliminating the need for medication and surgery that Western doctors often recommend for concerns that are simply part of the natural stages of a woman’s life. This guide contains qigong exercises with photo instructions, as well as mindful breathing techniques, acupressure, herbal remedies, a seasonal fasting plan, and 50 delicious healing recipes, including Ma Po Tofu and Lotus Root and Asian Pear Stir-Fry. Master Hou teaches women at any stage in their lives how to manage their internal energy, awaken their own powers of self-healing, and gain insight into the deep connections within their bodies. Women seeking in natural solutions to sleeping soundly, strengthening the immune system, thriving during childbearing years, taking menopause in stride, and achieving overall wellness in their lives will find answers here.

Focusing on practice more than theory, this collection offers new perspectives for studying the so-called “humoral medical traditions,” as they have flourished around the globe during the last 2,000 years. Exploring notions of “balance” in medical cultures across Eurasia, Africa and the Americas, from antiquity to the present, the volume revisits “harmony” and “holism” as main characteristics of those traditions. It foregrounds a dynamic notion of balance and asks how balance is defined or conceptualized, by whom, for whom and in what circumstances. Balance need not connoteegalitarianism or equilibrium. Rather, it alludes to morals of self care exercised in place of excessiveness and indulgences after long periods of a life in dearth. As the moral becomes visceral, the question arises: what constitutes the visceral in a body that is in constant flux and flow? How far, and in what ways, are there fundamental properties or constituents in those bodies?

Bodies in Treatment is a challenging volume that brings into conceptual focus an "unspoken dimension" of clinical work - the body and nonverbal communication - that has long occupied the shadowy realm of tacit knowledge. By bringing visceral, sensory, and imagistic modes of emotional processing to the forefront, Editor Frances Sommer Anderson and the contributors to this original collection expand the domain of psychodynamic engagement. Working at the leading edge of psychoanalytic theory and practice, and in the forefront of the integrative psychotherapy movement, Anderson has created a collaborative project that stimulates interdisciplinary dialogue on the developmental neurobiology of attachment, the micro-processing of interchanges between the infant and caregiver, the neuroscience of emotional processing and trauma, body-focused talking treatments for trauma, and research in cognitive science. Enlightened by experiencing body-based treatments for thirty years, Anderson reflects on the powerful impact of these interventions, recounting attempts to integrate her somatically-informed discoveries into the "talking" frame. Reaching further, her contributors present richly informative accounts of how experiences in body-based modalities can be creatively integrated into a psychoanalytic framework of treatment. Readers are introduced to specialized modalities, such as craniosacral therapy and polarity therapy, as well as to the adjunctive use of yoga, the effectiveness of which can be grounded neurophysiologically. Somatic interventions are discussed in terms of the extent to which they can promote depth-psychological change outside the psychoanalytic consulting room as well as how they can enrich the relational process in psychodynamic treatment. The final sections of Bodies in Treatment explore the range of ways in which patients’ and therapists’ bodies engage, sustain, and contain the dynamics of treatment.

Latest Release and Updates to Body in Balance: September 15,2015 In this release and update on the "Naked Truth" We are making real progress and many readers have written to me to let me know they have taken action. As a result, they report feeling better and performing better after following the healthy steps outlined in my book. That's great news! However, more work is still needed- our public health policies as they relate to pesticides, GMOs, sweetners and sweet deals with corporate control over food at the federal, state, local government and university levels needs to change. Big Food and the deceptive marketing to kids continues and it is time that we take back the right to know what is in our food to get our bodies and our nation's health back in balance. Therefore, my work continues with updates on these topics and more resources in this new edition of Body in Balance. Enjoy! Background: The American diet couldn't be a better breeding ground if we intentionally designed it to grow cancer, heart disease and stroke as well as to fast-track diabetes. Our poor diets and the acidic environment they create for our blood encourage these illnesses and we could not have made a better experiment (our diet) if we designed it for that research purpose. But this isn't an experiment. This is your health and your vitality is slipping away every time you try to treat another symptom with yet another pill. Each of those little aches, pains, and subtle low-grade annoyances are "warning signals" that an imbalance or deficiency exists somewhere in your biochemistry, oftentimes years before it surfaces as a diagnosable condition. The first place to look for clues is your diet. Currently the standard American diet (or "SAD" as it is rightfully known by) has degenerated to the point where 62% of calories are from refined foods and about 26% come from animal products. Of that mere 10% that remains from unrefined plant food, half of that comes from white potato products, not exactly nutrient-rich. Americans are just not eating for energy, and the numbers to follow couldn't paint a poorer picture for a Nation slipping deeper into a nutrition debt that will eventually bankrupt the US. The diet analysis mentioned is devoid of life and energy but somehow we continue to expect dead packaged foods to sustain life. They simply can't. They only add to a growing balance sheet of debt for our health in cataclysmic proportions. Those that are profiting, in addition to the pharmaceutical companies, are those selling to a "caffeine Nation" with products that aim to "fix" our extreme fatigue epidemic. The real answer begins with what you are putting on your plate. Along with learning what to simply avoid, and adopting a few smart nutrition tweaks and corrective movement suggestions in this book, you will quickly begin to get your body back in balance.

Like the sweet heat of a palate-pleasing curry or the brilliant radiance of bougainvillea, the short stories in Mary Anne Mohanraj's Bodies in Motion will delight the senses and sensibilities. Her tales follow two generations of two families living on the cusp of disparate worlds, America and Sri Lanka -- their lives and ties shaped, strengthened, devastated, and altered by the emigrant-immigrant ebb and flow. Through stunning, effervescent prose, intimate moments are beautifully distilled, revealing the tug-of-war between generations and gender in stories sensual and honest, chronicling love, ambition, and the spiritual and sexual quests of mothers and daughters, fathers and sons.
