During and following the 2004 Hurricane Season, some of our members felt led to assemble a collection of poetry, which lifted praises up to our Lord for the mercy He showed to us. It was therapeutic for us and helped rid ourselves of frustrations and anxieties that had kept us in bondage during and after these storms. Many in our area sustained major damage to their businesses and homes. Some of our members were among them. We have assembled these poems into this anthology to the Glory of God our Heavenly Father, His Son our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit our Comforter! FBC Melbourne became a shelter for displaced persons, recovery workers and a staging area for disaster relief work in Florida supported by the Salvation Army, the Red Cross and Southern Baptist Relief Organizations for several months in 2004. All the proceeds received from the sale of this Anthology will be used to support the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Operations our Church is committed to carrying out wherever and whenever we are called upon. Rodney Gómez's Arsenal With Praise Song somehow manages to yoke together lament and celebration, reproach and veneration across the borders of eras and nations. Set in the stark desert landscape of the México-U.S. border all too familiar to so many refugees and migrants, these poems scrutinize human bodies and the body of the earth as the sites of great injustices and violences-political, social, and spiritual-and as the vehicles that carry our collective legacy generation to generation.

One of the chief functions of poetry in Antiquity, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance was to praise gods, people and things. Heroes and kings were glorified in many varieties of praise, and the arts of encomium and panegyric were codified by classical rhetoricians and later by writers on poetry. J. A. Burrow's study spans over two thousand years, from Pindar to Christopher Logue, but its main concern is with the English poetry of the Middle Ages, a period when praise poetry flourished. He argues that the 'decline of praise' in English literature since the seventeenth century, which has meant that modern readers and critics find it hard to appreciate this kind of poetry. This erudite but accessible account by a leading scholar of medieval literature shows why the poetry of praise was once so popular, and why it is still worth reading today.

The great work of Welsh literature, translated in full for the first time in over 100 years by two of its country's foremost poets Tennyson portrayed him, and wrote at least one poem under his name. Robert Graves was fascinated by what he saw as his work's connection to a lost world of deeply buried folkloric memory. He is a shapeshifter; a seer; a chronicler of battles fought, by sword and with magic, between the ancient kingdoms of the British Isles; a bridge between old Welsh mythologies and the new Christian theology; a 6th-century Brythonic bard; and a legendary collective project spanning the centuries up to The Book of Taliesin's compilation in 14th-century North Wales. He is, above all, no single 'he'. The figure of Taliesin is a mystery. But of the variety and quality of the poems written under his sign, of their power as exemplars of the force of ecstatic poetic imagination, and of the fascinating window they offer us onto a strange and visionary world, there can be no question. In the first volume to gather all of the poems from The Book of Taliesin since 1915, Gwyneth Lewis and Rowan Williams's accessible translation makes these outrageous, arrogant, stumbling and joyful poems available to a new generation of readers.
