Excerpt from Annual Report of the State Board of Horticulture of the State of California: For 1889 In accordance with resolutions adopted at the National City Convem tion, I forwarded to his Excellency, the President of the United States, and the honorable the Secretary of State, a memorial, in which the needs of this coast were fully set forth in the matter of the introduction of para sites, and a series of questions, to be forwarded to the United States Con sulates, with reference to the cultivation, treatment, and processing of citrus fruits, the Olive, and the fig, and also with reference to the parasites that prey upon injurious insects, and methods of treatment, etc., and requesting that instructions be issued to answer fully. The President acknowledged the receipt of said memorial, as also did the Secretary of State, and in reply suggested that I should prepare the questions to be for warded to the Consulates throughout the country. In accordance there with I formulated a series of questions, which have been forwarded to the Consulates. It is to be hoped that replies from them will be of benefit to the horticulturists of our State. Through the aid of United States Consulates, I secured for our library all the reports published in their respective countries. Many of these are of the highest value, and I have had many subjects of great interest to our State translated, which will appear in our next annual report.
