The Adventurers strike again! Displaced American slacker Steve Jones and his adventuring friends discover their reputation has spread beyond Broken Bay when they are summoned to the court of the king of neighboring Diamvé. The legal stipulations of the summons specify they must have seven members, but with Andricus and Nugktor having returned to their homes, the group is forced to find additional companions. First to join up is Magnus's cousin, Brummburr Rumblebelly. On the way to Diamvé, they are befriended by the restless ghost of a military tailor, Ivan the Regretful, and stalked by Josi the Weasel, a Maelaran assassin hired to find and kill Xixax for practicing magic without the proper credentials. After navigating the Diamvéan bureaucracy, the group discovers that the heir to the Diamvéan throne, Prince Nob, has been abducted by a religious cult. The king of Diamvé has hired them to find him and return him home alive for his upcoming nuptials. As if this isn't enough, Steve discovers that he has been chosen by the Seven Cosmic Pillars of the Celestial Totality for some as-yet unknown task, and his fragile, fractured memories of his old life are fading fast. "I've never been on an adventure," Brummburr said, grinning. "It's all fun and games until you get mummy wang in your mouth," Steve replied.

Imagine a capitalist paradise. An island utopia governed solely by the rules of the market and inspired by the fictions of Ayn Rand and Robinson Crusoe. Sound far-fetched? It may not be. The past half century is littered with the remains of such experiments in what Raymond Craib calls “libertarian exit.” Often dismissed as little more than the dreams of crazy, rich Caucasians, exit strategies have been tried out from the southwest Pacific to the Caribbean, from the North Sea to the high seas, often with dire consequences for local inhabitants. Based on research in archives in the US, the UK, and Vanuatu, as well as in FBI files acquired through the Freedom of Information Act, Craib explores in careful detail the ideology and practice of libertarian exit and its place in the histories of contemporary capitalism, decolonization, empire, and oceans and islands. Adventure Capitalism is a global history that intersects with an array of figures: Fidel Castro and the Koch brothers, American segregationists and Melanesian socialists, Honolulu-based real estate speculators and British Special Branch spies, soldiers of fortune and English lords, Orange County engineers and Tongan navigators, CIA operatives and CBS news executives, and a new breed of techno-utopians and an old guard of Honduran coup leaders. This is not only a history of our time but, given the new iterations of privatized exit—seasteads, free private cities, and space colonization—it is also a history of our future.

Mrs. Bertrice Martin—a widow, some seventy-three years young—has kept her youthful-ish appearance with the most powerful of home remedies: daily doses of spite, regular baths in man-tears, and refusing to give so much as a single damn about her Terrible Nephew. Then proper, correct Miss Violetta Beauchamps, a sprightly young thing of nine and sixty, crashes into her life. The Terrible Nephew is living in her rooming house, and Violetta wants him gone. Mrs. Martin isn’t about to start giving damns, not even for someone as intriguing as Miss Violetta. But she hatches another plan—to make her nephew sorry, to make Miss Violetta smile, and to have the finest adventure of all time. If she makes Terrible Men angry and wins the hand of a lovely lady in the process? Those are just added bonuses. Author’s Note: Sometimes I write villains who are subtle and nuanced. This is not one of those times. The Terrible Nephew is terrible, and terrible things happen to him because he deserves them. Sometime villains really are bad and wrong, and sometimes, we want them to suffer a lot of consequences.
