This system, which permits the use of an extended wing span for fuel conservation with minimum structural change, will be introduced into commercial service in early 1980. The system is described and the criteria to which it is designed are discussed. Examples of flight test data obtained from a prototype version of the system installed on the flight test airplane are presented, and comparisons of these results with analytical predictions are shown.
