An evidence of this is the present style of examination papers for admission to colleges and schools. Algebra is not an end in Mathematics, but a means only. Properly considered, Algebra is largely a multiplication-table to be used in other mathematical work. It is not sufficient, then, that the subject be understood: the processes must be readily handled.
