James Comey's formerly classified memos were leaked to the media on April 19, 2018. Comey sent these memos after his meetings and conversations with Donald Trump to Deputy FBI director Andrew McCabe, FBI Chief of Staff James E Rybicki, and FBI General Counsel James A. Baker. Comey is hated by Republicans for being the catalyst for the appointment of the special counsel Robert Mueller, another former FBI director, in the Russian investigation. He is hated by Democrats for his public reopening and closing into the Hilary Clinton e-mail investigation within 11 days of the 2016 presidential election. Democrats believe that act handed the election to Donald J. Trump, who lost the popular vote by about 3 million votes despite winning the electoral college.
