Investigating the principle of reasona-bleness in the legal world requires—if the task is to be taken seriously—to take a journey directly to the roots of the concept of law and to the ultimate paradigms that inform its knowledge, just to find the beginning of a different and maybe harder path, heading to the idea of reason. The essays presented in this book do not aim to complete such journeys, but just to take some modest steps into them. Many con-cepts are thereby found, many more are left to be investigated. Meanwhile, between rationality and reasonableness, theory and practice, science and prudence, episteme and phronesis, a global need emerges: that to keep addressing the core of the ‘Rule of Reason’ in the law.
In this book 25 authors from the Global South (19) and the Global North (6) address conflicts, security, peace, gender, environment and development. This book provides skills for therapists and families to help improve interpersonal communication, promoting a new system of family coexistence and a refreshed concept of the modern marriage in society. Written from a constructivist peace perspective, the book’s aim is to reduce the high statistics of intimate partner violence that occurs in Mexico, arguing that the culture of peace and how it is born in the family in turn affects society for better or for worse. Based upon interviews from 150 long-term married couples, the chapters address the components that promote peaceful dialogue in marriages, such as assertive language, active listening, tolerance to frustration, and gender perspectives. Including accessible language and several models of peace, the book uniquely examines same-sex marriages, the role of children in marriage conflicts, and prescribed gender assumptions and roles in relationships. It aims to empower family members to move away from old habits and seek a more equitable existence in marriages and society at large. This interdisciplinary text will be of great interest to family therapists and clinical social workers, as well as to students and researchers in communication and peace studies.
La sobrevivencia de los seres humanos, individual y colectivamente, depende en gran medida del conocimiento que tengan de su entorno y de ellos mismos. Una de las condiciones que hacen posible ese conocimiento es la capacidad que se denomina 'razón'. La comunicación y las acciones coordinadas entre las personas, así como sus interacciones con el medio ambiente, son posibles en virtud del ejercicio de esa capacidad: la racionalidad. Gracias a ella, los seres humanos aprenden y manejan los lenguajes, conectan unas ideas con otras, hacen inferencias y toman decisiones, por ejemplo, acerca de qué creer y qué no creer, qué fines perseguir o qué cursos de acción tomar. En este volumen, un grupo de destacados filósofos iberoamericanos estudia diferentes aspectos de la racionalidad. En el primer trabajo se expone lúcidamente la evolución de la idea de racionalidad epistémica en el siglo XX. En el segundo, se analiza una idea acariciada a lo largo de toda la historia de la filosofía occidental: la posibilidad de fundamentar el conocimiento sobre bases incontrovertibles. Pero este proyecto con frecuencia ha suscitado la respuesta de los escépticos, quienes dudan que sea posible tener conocimiento genuino de la realidad. Éste es el tema del tercer artículo. En el siguiente se analiza una problemática central de la racionalidad: la argumentación. En el quinto trabajo se discuten las nociones de objetividad y de verdad. Los tres artículos que siguen se concentran sobre las ciencias, a menudo consideradas como ejemplos paradigmáticos de racionalidad. ¿Es merecida esa reputación? Esto se discute mediante el análisis de los problemas de la inteligibilidad racional de la realidad natural y social, de los métodos de las ciencias y del desarrollo científico. En el siguiente trabajo se aborda otro problema discutido ampliamente desde la antigüedad: la racionalidad, ¿es universal o no lo es? Finalmente, en los dos últimos trabajos se discuten los enfoques más recientes que han propuesto la llamada naturalización de la razón, prestando especial atención crítica a los intentos por disolver a la racionalidad.
Los trabajos aquí reunidos tratan, por un lado, cuestiones de la racionalidad en relación con esferas fundamentales de la vida social: la moral, la política, la ciencia y la tecnología; por el otro, discuten en un nivel teórico diversas concepciones de la racionalidad; finalmente se lleva a cabo una evaluación de diversas tradiciones de pensamiento filosófico y, dentro de ellas, las tensiones entre los diversos enfoques.
En las XXXIV Jornadas de la Asociación Interdiciplinar José Acosta se pretendía analizar algo que se considera básico para cualquier debate interdisciplinar y que está en la raíz de su misma posibilidad: la existencia de diferentes modos de pensamiento que, más allá de los contenidos, remita a distintas estructuras subyacentes en la misma configuración de la racionalidad.
