Just A Little Country Boy is a story of the trials in the life of a young black boy born during the late Depression years in Arkansas. In 1940, when segregation was at its worst in the South, his father moved the family to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in search of a better life. An industrial revolution was taking place throughout the North at the time, offering better employment opportunities for the black man. Therefore the Black Migration began with black families leaving the servile attitudes of the South with the dreams of a better life. LeRoy Allen was blessed with good, hard-working parents who taught him to take pride in himself, to work hard, use good manners, and to respect all people. As a teenager, he took an interest in, and competed in almost all sports, but his big interest was boxing. He became Wisconsins State Golden Gloves champion for 3 different years. Later, he spent a few years as a professional boxer, meeting and sparring with many well-known boxers of that era. As a young adult, he became more aware of the prejudices and inequities surrounding the black man. Most of his adult years were spent moving from job to job, trying to improve his circumstances, while searching for decent employment to support his growing family. After experiencing nearly 50 different jobs, he succeeded in being hired into a position for which he was trained and well qualified. He was well into middle age before the job market began to hire women or blacks into responsible positions. Mr. Allen records many of the changes in the attitudes towards blacks in Milwaukee, and across the nation, as they occured during the last half of the 20th century. It is a story of faith, determination, and fortitude and a real insight into our nations awakening to the talents of our black citizens and our growing respect for their contributions to our society.

Larry learned early on that a mans hand-shake is his bond. To this day he retains that bond as well as one of honesty and compassion for others in all his dealings. Most men are honest, but at times ambition or greed can influence the best of intentions. Although Larry had a humble beginning, he rose above it to become a very successful man and was able to change dysfunctional living practices with his own family. He instilled love, honesty and respect in their upbringing all the while exhibiting patience and understanding. His greatest love is for God, his family, friends and nature. That love has been an inspiration in the writing of both Poetic Expressions and now his autobiography. Mike was a country boy with a dream. He wanted a car, a job, and a girlfriend. He got the car and a job, but the girlfriend turned into a nightmare. Mike finally got a girlfriend, but the school bully put him down. His girlfriend left him. So he decided not to get mad, but to get even. The way he got even was a blast. Mike was going to a country school. You had to have a car or ~ou were dead in the water with the girls. Mikes luck turned bad. If he didn't have bad luck, he wouldn't have any luck at all. After a bad storm destroyed their home, they moved to a small town. Mike ran with the guys and got in a lot of trouble. He finally made out with a girl. Turned out she was a fifty dollar a "night call girl from Houston and showed him the ropes about making love. Mike made out with other girls after that. Then Mike met Linda Carson. Linda was a rich rancher's daughter. They moved from Oklahoma to Texas and bought a large horse ranch. Mr. Carson hired Mike after he saved his horse's life. Mike was good with horses. Linda liked Mike, but he was an old country boy. Mrs. Carson wanted Linda to go out with the rich boys. Linda was confused at what she wanted. Would true love win out?
