Commercial exploitation of the Yezo scallop in southern Primor'ye, USSR, have been ongoing since 1919, with scallop cultivation beginning in 1962 when the natural fishing grounds were closed. The expansion of scallop plantations is mainly held back by organizational and material-technical reasons, as well as by instability of the spat harvests. This instability has led to the need to develop methods of obtaining hardy scallop spat in a fully controlled environment. This paper deals with the main physiological processes of the scallop at the juvenile stages, enabling the development of tentative standards for feed concentration, the rate of supplying feed, oxygen conditions and the density of stocking. The investigations were carried out from May-July in 1983 and 1984 using 3d and 4th year scallops.
